As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.

– Psalm 71:14

Our world is in a constant state of change. The values that as a society were embraced just decades ago have now changed and with that our thought patterns and ideals. The nuclear family – mom, dad and their children – has now given way in many instances to single parent homes, the values of honoring those who serve our country in various forms of service has now disappeared. We live in a place of chaos and uncertainty. In the last 6 months our lives have been changed drastically. We have faced a pandemic that has changed how we think about our world and there is huge civil unrest around the country.

However, despite the chaos, the uncertainty, there is one aspect of our lives that never changes. That is the hope and trust we can place in God. The Psalmist writes of this hope in Psalm 71 which I commend to your review. This Psalm has so many parts that talk of God being our strength, our hope, our refuge and our trust. Amidst all the chaos we have a place of safety that we can turn to and that is our hope in God.

For many of us this journey began when we were younger, however some have developed a faith in their latter years. But we are confident that during all that is transpiring, the uncertainty of it all, we have a rock in God that is never changing. When it comes to trusting in God, the hymn writer put it best when these words were penned: “Trust and Obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”

In difficult days, let us turn to the rock, the refuge that we have and place our hope and trust in God.

Prayer: “God of all grace and mercy, the one who we can trust and who gives us hope, sustain us in these uncertain times and equip us with your power to face these challenges each day.”
