Touchdown Charlie Brown

By Chaplain Joel Chastain
Almost everyone has read the comic strip Charlie Brown. There also have been television specials with the characters from Charlie Brown. One particular episode involved Lucy pulling a football away right before Charlie tried to kick it.
The phrase, “Touch Down Charlie Brown” can serve as an acrostic reminder for Spiritual comfort. Each word begins with the same letter of the truths found in Psalm 37:3-6.
Touch= Trust
Down= Delight
Charlie= Commit
Brown= Be Still
In Psalm 37 David uses theses phrases to encourage and strengthen himself in the LORD. The Holy Spirit continues to use this scripture to encourage us today.
Psalm 37:3
· Trust in the LORD. Trust means a total and complete reliance upon. An unshakable confidence. God desires and deserves our trust, not only for our salvation but every need, every trial, and every circumstance. We are commanded to Trust in the LORD with All our heart.
Psalm 37:4
· Delight yourself in the LORD. This deals with our desires and our priorities. Our main pleasure in life is to be found in Him. Verse four states if we do this, He will give us the desires of our heart.
· Commit your way to the LORD. To commit means to roll over all our needs on Him. A decision to give God all authority to care for all our ways.
· Be Still before the LORD. To be still means to rest, to be silent. A calm expectation of God’s presence. Psalm 46:10, Be Still and know that I am God.
